Video: Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium hosts special exhibit honoring the Tuskegee Airmen
TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Air and Space Museum is celebrating the opening of the new “Tuskegee Legacy” exhibition with the CAF RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit on Thursday, September 8th.
The exhibit features a mobile movie theater that tours the country to educate the public about the history of the Tuskegee Airmen who broke down barriers to serve the U.S. during WWII.
The immersive experience takes place in a climate controlled 52′ semi trailer with expandable sides and a ramp with a hydraulic lift to accommodate 30 visitors for each showing.
Admission to RISE ABOVE is included with regular museum admission and WWII Veterans are admitted free of charge.
The RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit includes showings of the “Rise Above” film with highlight the Tuskegee Airmen and features footage of the CAF Red Tail Squadron’s P-51C Mustang Tuskegee Airmen.
The exhibit also includes the story of the Women Airforce Service Pilots or WASP, a group of civilian women aviators who flew aircrafts during WWII.
While they did not participate in combat, they ferried fighter planes and served as flight instructors during WWII according to the National Museum of WWII Aviation.
The RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit also includes a fully restored WWII-era P-51C Mustang, the aircraft used by the Tuskegee Airmen, and an AT-6 Texas Nella.
The exhibit will be open to the public at the Tulsa Air and Space Museum and Planetarium from September 8th through 10th, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
