JOB TITLE: Head Brewer LOCATION: Downtown Concord, NH POSITION TYPE: Full Time SHIFT: Mostly Monday-Friday during the day but occasionally longer days and/or weekends
BENEFITS: Health Insurance, 401K, paid vacation time, paid continuing education, ownership share and other benefits POSITION SUMMARY: Manage brewery operations, brewing and oversight/training of staff and CIP and cellaring as necessary. Responsible for following established SOPs and best practices in order to produce high quality beer. Involvement in creating new beers and other brewery projects.
OUR BREWERY: We are an established microbrewery located in the historic downtown capital of New Hampshire. We have built a team of skilled and passionate people dedicated to producing the highest quality beers. We are currently seeking an experienced, creative and hard-working brewer to join and lead our team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Operation of a 15 barrel steam powered brewhouse. - Direct responsibility over maintaining quality standards in all areas of brewing and cellaring. - Maintain sanitary and micro-biologically stable work environment through Clean in Place (CIP) procedures and good organizational and housekeeping skills/habits. - Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). - Occasional yeast handling, including harvesting, cell counts, and pitching. - Monitor and record fermentations including routine analysis of in-process beer. - Operation of plate filter/filtering for some beers. - Carbonate beer and prepare for it for packaging. - Regular lifting, carrying, and moving of hoses, parts, pumps, buckets, kegs, grain bags and other heavy items, and requiring standing, walking, and crouching regularly throughout a shift. - Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment and infrastructure in collaboration with brewery staff. - Aid in the professional development of brewery team.
- Participation in selected promotional events such as festivals and tastings both in and outside the brewery. - Additional duties as may be necessary. MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED: - Computer for ordering, tracking and production management and familiarity with other process automation systems. - Familiarity with brewing raw materials including water, hops, malt and yeast.
- Experience operating mill, auger, mash/lauter tun, kettle/whirlpool, filter, pumps, heat exchanger and chiller and keg cleaner. - Experience with cleaning and sanitizing chemicals. - Experience using hoses, valves, clamps, gaskets and other basic brewery equipment. - Fork lift operation experience and certification. IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Positive outlook and attitude. - Ability to maintain productivity with limited supervision and Self-motivated with good time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple processes at one time.

- Basic understanding of water chemistry.
- Developed sense of flavor profiles and off flavors. - Maintain high safety and quality standards. - Strong mechanical aptitude. - Ability work well with other on a diverse team and communicate effectively. - Work shifts that can start early and go late and on occasion on weekends and holidays.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch and climb ladders/steps. - Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 lbs. - Full dexterity and use of senses to identify potential hazards. - Must be able to participate in critical assessment of beers. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL: - Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in one or more commercial breweries as a brewer. - Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the brewing process, cellaring, kegging and canning.
