When it comes to high-performance, four-door sedans, it’s usually the Germans everyone is looking to. However, there are two American propositions that manage to combine four-door practicality, with big supercharged V-8s – the Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak and the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. Both celebrate the end of a glorious era of thirsty, supercharged V-8s, but while the Cadillac wants to be a well-dressed gentleman with a hidden dark side, the Dodge wants to be an unapologetic, tank top-wearing, beer-drinking maniac, full-time. Here are a few reasons why the Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak may be the better muscle car.

It doesn’t take long to notice that the Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak is the more “in your face” car of the two. While the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing looks like it is wearing a tuxedo, the Dodge Charger looks like it’s constantly flexing its muscles. The MOPAR’s front end features a lot more vents and creases, compared to the more restrained Cadillac.

One thing you cannot miss is the giant hood scoop of the Charger, which like the rest of the vents in the front, is functional. Last but not least the Charger Jailbreak edition comes, exclusively, with the widebody, which features well-defined flared wheel arches. By comparison, the CT5-V Blackwing features a very clean side profile, with little in the way of creases. The Cadillac also lacks a hood bulge or a hood scoop. A muscle car is never about being discrete and it seems, no one is better at flexing than MOPARs.

The Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak edition is the swan song of MOPAR muscle as we know it. As such, you can spec a Jailbreak edition any way you like, with very little (if any) in the way of limitations. The Jailbreak allows you to, separately, choose the side-mirror finish, wheel finish (there are multiple wheel choices, too), brake caliper color, of which there are seven options, and even the badge finish.

Muscle cars are all about power. More specifically, cramming the biggest possible engine into the smallest possible car. While there’s nothing small about the Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak edition (exhaling), it packs a lot more punch than the sleeker Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. While both American super-sedans pack 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engines, the Charger’s HEMI puts out 807 horsepower at 6,300 RPM and 707 pound-feet (959 Nm) at 4,600 RPM.

By comparison, the 6.2-liter LT4 unit in the Cadillac packs “only” 668 horsepower at 6,400 RPM and 659 pound-feet (893 Nm) at 3,600 RPM, thanks to Cadillac’s own, in-house modifications. One place, where the Cadillac offers something that the Charger doesn’t is in the transmission department. Since November 2021, Dodge’s supercharged models can only be had with the ZF, eight-speed automatic.

The CT5-V Blackwing can be had with a 10-speed, 10L90, automatic, but also with a Tremec TR-6060, six-speed manual. Both cars send power, exclusively to the rear wheels.

The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is aimed straight at the German trio and you can tell by the amount of attention GM has spent on making it as luxurious as a Cadillac should be. But while luxury is great, it’s not what muscle cars are about. By comparison, the interior of the Charger Jailbreak is more rugged and, possibly a bit outdated.

The Charger’s interior is a bit more plasticky than the Cadillac, but it’s also sportier, featuring optional carbon-fiber inserts and, strangely enough for a $100,000 car, a center console from a Jeep Renegade. Regardless, despite being a bit more utilitarian than the Cadillac, the Charger’s interior is stil a great place to be, and fits the muscle car philosophy.

If there’s one thing we know from classic MOPARs, it’s that you could order them in some pretty crazy colors. Even now, the image of a Plum Crazy Challenger, SubLime Cuda, or a Hemi Orange Charger are, likely, cropping up in your mind. Luckily, Chrysler has kept the tradition of offering high-impact colors while mixing it up with some darker shades.

The Jailbreak can be had in a variety of flamboyantly named colors. In the bright corner, we have the iconic Go Mango, Torred, White Knuckle, Tripple Nickel, and a color that is yet to be revealed. The darker side of the Jailbreak edition’s color palette includes Pitch Black, Sinnamon Stick, Octane Red, Hellraisin, Smoke Show, Granite, Indigo Blue, Frostbite, and F8 Green.

Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing has some epic color options of its own, such as Electric Blue, Blaze Orange Metallic, Infrared Tintcoat, Wave Blue Metallic, and even Dark Emerald Frost. The rest of the options include Summit White, Rift Metallic, Satin Steel Metallic, Shadow Metallic, and Black Raven, which are just a bit more subdued than what you would find in the Jailbreak options list and more appropriate for an under-the-radar, high-performance luxury car than a dinosaur-powered V-8 earthquake-generating machine.
